Oh come on, Hillary Clinton!

I’m on Hillary Clinton’s mailing list and I get email from her and her supporters all the time.

Today I got an email from Rob Reiner saying he had answered Sen. Clinton’s call for volunteers by putting together a little movie.

I clicked the link to see the movie, but it was not captioned and I quickly clicked it away.

Sadly, from past experience, the lack of captions surprised me as much as the sun coming up this morning.

Without further ado, here is the email I promptly fired off to Clinton campaign headquarters:

Dear Hillary ..

I am deaf, as are millions of other Americans. How are we supposed to understand your campaign videos when they are not closed captioned?

I think it is fascinating that many deaf bloggers have found a way to add captioning to their videos, but you with all your money and clout cannot seem to do the same thing.

Do I need to remind you that 1 out of 10 Americans has a hearing loss?

We have seen some remarkably close elections in recent years. In an evenly divided climate in which a handful of votes can swing an election either way, I think it is a big mistake on your part to ignore the deaf community … no, not “ignore” … ACTIVELY INSULT the deaf community by neglecting the simple and inexpensive task of adding captions to your videos.

I wrote to you on this topic months ago when you announced your candidacy in an uncaptioned video. I am extremely disappointed that this continues to be a problem.

Are you planning to be President of all Americans, or only those who can hear?

I am long past the point of being polite and respectful and groveling for a few crumbs. Closed-captioning has been around for more than 25 years, and I am incredibly sick and tired of being insulted and abused and ignored by the idiots and morons and nincompoops who put their stuff on TV without closed captions.

  • I am a senior citizen and I am in the process of getting information on how to learn signing. I am appalled about the lack of closed captioning on TV not only for the deaf, but it helps other people to keep up with the subject at hand. It is very difficult to hear everything, even with good hearing.
